It had taken Vette the better part of December to put it together. She'd dabbled in building weapons before, sure, but the amount of tinkering that it took, especially when the only materials she really had at her disposal were pieces of scrap metal she'd scavenged from the junkyard, had been... impressive. She'd used one of her own blasters as a blueprint, though, had taken it apart and reverse-engineered it until she could put together something functional, and had even taken it for a spin earlier today against the snowmen, to make certain that firing it wasn't going to result in a blaster power pack exploding in Rosa's face.
And so, wrapped in newspaper with a tag on it saying, 'For Detective Diaz,' Vette had jimmied the front door lock to get into the MHA and had left Rosa's gift, along with a few spare power packs, outside her apartment door.
And then she ran like hell. She wasn't sure if she was being anonymous enough, but given the content of the package, she thought maybe Rosa would forgive her if perhaps the gift-giver was a little obvious. At least she'd bribed the squirrels to keep their little traps shut about this one. See? She could learn from her mistakes, after all.
